A Double murder in Noida, India not a month ago, and how it happened unfolds what exactly is wrong with the 'new' Indian society. Lets summarize this chronologically as it unfolded before us:Event 1 - A 14-year old girl's throat is slit and is killed in the darkness of the night, while her parents(The Talwars - Translation: The Swords) sleep soundly in the adjacent room. Parents call in the police, and the domestic is the prime suspect as he is untraceable.
Event 2 - The 'distraught' parents are in a hurry to cremate and finish the last rites of the body . The crime scene is cleaned by the father's compounder, the following day even while investigation is underway.
Event 3 - The prime suspect's (domestic) body is found on the terrace after 2 full days of the investigation on the terrace of the Talwars, by an ex-policeman who happened to see a blood trail leading up to the terrace; which went unnoticed by the 3 sets of police teams(Meerut Police, Delhi Police and Noida Police) working on the case.
Event 4 - After hours of questioning the father, one of the police teams reveal that this was the work of an insider, was the work of a butcher or a doctor and some talk on 'honour killing', saying the domestic was killed before the girl. While the other police team quoted the opposite sequence of events; leaving everyone clueless on the real sequence of the murders. However, Police still say, "Case will be cracked in 24 hours..."
Event 5 - The police finally arrest the father, saying he killed his daughter enraged by the fact that she knew of his wife's and his orgy sessions. He also found his daughter in an 'objectionable, but not compromising position'(this phrase repeated a record of 5 times in the press-conference in an 'attempt' to not look insensitive to the dead) with the domestic when he entered home that night; which they sa probably triggered it off. They highlight the email correspondence of the girl's to show the detoriating relationship with the father, which turns out to be as later discovered by the media - 1 year old...
Event 6 - The mother of the victim comes out and pleads innocence for her husband to the media. She came out in the open to give an interview to the media, to give their side of the story; what we took back from the interview was the image of a cold mother whose response to the question "How did you not hear anything, while your daughter was murdered in the adjacent room?" was "We are working professionals, who work like crazy people throughout the day and we too need our sleep". She didn't even deny the reports on their 'lifestyle' implying orgies.
Event 7 - After a couple of narco tests, the previously solid case against the father too turns out to be a dud; as the only thing against him is the inconsistencies in his story and his supposed confession to the police, which obviously was denied by him saying he was pressured to confess. So all the supposed forensic investigations is unable to implicate the father. All senior officials of the police teams are transferred for their brilliant Public Relations and use of tactful language with the media.
Event 8 - The Talwars demand a CBI(Central Bureau of Investigation) probe, while the centre is weary of picking up the case and this becomes a political fiasco as all can see this case ain't that easy to 'crack' and noone would not want to take on a losing battle.
Event 9 - Finally, the CBI accepts it and they too make some 24 hour tall claims soon after; The police try and use the compounder as an approver but land up arresting him on the grounds of him failing his narco test; 3 officials of the CBI too are transferred from the case due to involvement in leaks to the media. However, the case still remains far from solved even after a week.
There is a saying in Hindu mythology, that the river Yamuna is a river of sorrow and tears; formed by the tears of a sister, Yamini who weeps for her brother, Yama who she would never see as he became the Lord of the Dead (both are incidentally the children of the Sun God Surya). The sorrow was always represented by the river's dull colour, but now it is also with the curse it brings around itself wherever it flows.
This post is just as a statement of facts of the whole Talwar saga, and I would like to see what others make of this before I post my next entry where we will look at the meaning of each of these events and what I believe could be the truth...
P.S. - Yamuna flows through the NCR (Delhi, Noida etc.) Region.

One of the more horrendous cases that you hear about! The thought of the father killing his daughter is unimaginable, but after some rational thought seems to be what happened in this case..
What I fail to understand is how the parents slept through the night when 2 ppl were being murdered in their house. not poisoned or smothered, which might be noiseless, but bludgeoned!!! ..and the daughter's room was right next to theirs.
Have been following this one quite closely and even more ever since I got back home (thanks to all the news channels here who are almost living outside the Talwar residence and report every small develpment in the case). I might be way off, but for now it looks like some sort of a rivalry between the servants/compounders of the two families. There could also be a possibility that the parents were sedated that night. But then there are still too many lose ends in any theory tht I think of, like the CBI getting a 1 sec call from the compounder a day prior to the murders.
But ya, seeing the nature of cases that have occured in the NCR recently, I am forced to believe your old yamuna theory now.
Look fwd to ur next post on this one.
I'm not sure what happened in this case but, based on the publicly available information thus far, I'm not at all convinced it was a dishonor killing.
Just hope justice is eventually served. And that the victims are resting in peace.

Ok so this might make a very long post – I have a lot to say on this matter. I have been following this case too, more so for the outrageous way such a heinous crime is being handled by the police. The Noida police seem to have proven to be more gullible than a European tourist at an Indian flea market.
Possible motives:
- the guilty party could be a function of monetary negotiations between the Talwars and the cops.
-to create terror among rich & influential people by a professional gang so that later they can demand a huge sum of money from a number of rich people giving reference to this case.
- An honor killing; either by the parents or professional hired killers.
-Wife Swapping: It could be that Aarushi suspected her parents of having illicit relationships with another couple and she paid the price for it.
-Some influential figure might have gotten involved with Aarushi somehow, then killed her off. They might be threatening the parents and bribing the police as well.
-Some third party's professional rivalry or family enemity with the Talwars & Durranis.
-Aarushi might have witnessed some crime which even the parents are not aware of. She might have told it only to the servant and so the killer eliminated both of them. I think one has to be remarkably stupid to get caught by the Indian police and the fact that no intelligent attempt was made to hide the killer’s tracks seems to make it unlikely the ‘highly educated’ parents were involved directly.
A possible reconstruction of the crime would be:
The professional help, possibly more than one, is let in by the Talwars at night. The parents then go to bed and lock themselves up in their rooms. However cruel we are making them out to be, its doubtful the parents could have watched, even if they were the ones who planned and executed the whole thing.
The killers would have been provided with all keys for access, and asked to clean up everything before they leave. So parents were totally removed from everything, no prints etc in case of investigation.(Which is how the killer's gained entry into Aarushi's and the servant's room). The instructions might have been to only to kill the daughter, the servant was just thought of as a liability.
One of the main reasons for the hired professional help theory is that by looking at the pictures from the blood stains on the stairs, it is clear that the edges were still dirty. This could rule out someone who has ever been a servant or a doctor. Even if one forgets the doctor aspect for a minute, if someone is covering up something sinister in his own house, it is guaranteed they will do a thorough job of wiping out the traces.
The parents came out our their rooms only around the time the maid was expected. They were probably completely unaware that their servant had been killed as well. Their original plan may have been to let the servant discover Aarushi's body, This is probably why there was a call from the Talwar household to the servant’s mobile at 6am in the morning. Which is probably why the parents alluded to the fact that he must be the murderer, believing he saw the murder, panicked and fled, so best to pin it on him.
The biggest loophole of all: how on earth did the police initially conduct a crime scene investigation without even checking all the areas of the house for an entire day, especially the terrace! More interesting, is the fact that the daughter's mattress was found lying on the terrace. Did no one notice the missing mattress in the bedroom! So when they say the girl’s body was found covered by a blanket, does it mean she was lying on a bed without a mattress, covered by a blanket, which no one noticed to be missing? People have expressed surprised over the fact that the parents, doctors might I add, did not smell the decomposing body of the servant, but lets give them the benefit of the doubt for being in a state of shock. But how did the trained police personnel miss out on the smell? And were there no police dogs at the scene either?
Forget the smell, did they not even go onto the terrace to assess whether it could have been a possible point of entry for the murderer? Is this how murder investigations are conducted these days? Unless there is a common uprising by the public to demand justice, there probably is not going an outcome to a case like this, especially with the kind of efficiency the police seems to have displayed thus far, and such atrocities may well continue into the future. Do people really want such a precedent to be set?
While I dislike the 'tabloidization’ of this case, I seriously doubt if the police would have gotten this far it not for the media furor and as you have said it, the “political fiasco” it has created. Sensationalism has its place in Indian media, and it does act to occasionally wake someone out of their stupor.
That being said, I’m looking forward to know of what you think really happened.
The first reports I read of this case made it sound like the father executed "honour killings". When news of the alleged wife-swapping was revealed, they tried to link that with motive. I have seen reports where they mentioned the servant being fearful for his life, as he had death threats but did not reveal the source of those threats. Most of the reports don't seem to make very much sense. I wouldn't be surprised if this case just ended up being a sort of "crime of passion". Rajesh Talwar got drunk, pissed off, and his "guilt-driven" twisted mind got the better of him.
Have been reading too many forums, have we?

yes :)
This double-murder thing has become a sort of entertainmet where everyone seeems to be having their sherlock holmes caps on. I mean some channel actually wanted to make a TV series out of it. Some chanels leaked out SMSes and disgusting MMSes. I feel that even the people who were actually involoved in this murder dint not predict such huge public interest. In my opinion I refuse to beleive an educated father would ever commit such a horrendous act. What honour killing are they talking about, the dont live in those villages!!! My guess would be that the huge public interest in the issue would have caused the nodia police to solve this case as fast as possible without actually conducting proper tests and investigations. All said, I cant wait for it be solved too. It would be interesting to know who the REAL killer was and his motive cause everything seems really in-the-air right now.
